Mastering Gel Nail Application: Step-by-Step Guide

Mastering Gel Nail Application: Step-by-Step Guide

Applying gel nails may seem difficult at first since they require a UV/ LED to cure, unlike regular nail polish that air dries. However, with proper pre-treatment to optimize retention times, it's straightforward and saves a lot of time. To ensure optimal results, we've created a step-by-step guide for applying our Crystal Crescent Gel Nail Polish.

Step 1: Pretreatment

Firstly, you will need to decide what nail shape you would like. We have included a photo to help you pick your favourite nail shape.

To prepare your nails for Gel Polish, start by pushing back your cuticles using a cuticle pusher. Then, use nippers to remove any excess. After that, buff your nail bed to remove any oil on your nail bed. Be careful not to buff too much as this can make your nails thin. This will ensure that the Gel Polish adheres easily to your nails. Once you’re done, use acetone on a cotton pad to cleanse the surface of your nails. Make sure there is no residue left on your nails as this can affect the finish and longevity of your Gel Polish. Also, any oil on the surface of your nails will cause the Gel Polish to lift immediately.

Step 2: Base Coat

It’s important to apply a base coat before applying gel polish. this not only prevents the pigments from staining your nails but also helps the Gel Coat adhere better to your nails. If you accidentally touch your cured base coat before applying Gel, it may ruin the final look of your nails. It’s best to apply a thin layer of base coat to ensure it dries evenly and properly.

Step 3: Gel Polish

When applying Gel Nail Polish, it’s important to avoid getting it on your skin. Start a bit further up your nail, away from the cuticles, and push it back towards them. If any polish does get on your skin, use a cuticle pusher to remove it before curing. Apply thin layers of polish, typically 2-3 depending on the pigment, and cure each layer for the recommended time, usually 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Step 4: Top Coat

To ensure your polish lasts longer, apply and cure your top coat in the same manner as your coloured pigment. Make sure to cover the entire surface area and use a thin layer of top coat to avoid any contact with your skin.

Step 5: Finishing Touches

Once your nails are cured, wash your hands and apply cuticle oil to keep them soft and hydrated!

A Gel Nail manicure lasts for at least two weeks if applied properly and if the nails are not picked at!
